do you need an .oscd file for your template to get it to connect to touchosc and traktor? As a general question, are both PureData and OSCulator supposed to be running at the same time when you are trying to connect to Traktor?

    July 20, 2010 at 3:16 pm
  • djmoya says:

@mike – no the .oscd file is the template for the touchosc interface editor. You do not need it for anything other then creating and editing the template I made. On windows all you need is PureData running the pure data patch the .pd file.Heres is a simple tutorial I fallowed to setup PureData

Great work on the template. However to get it to work properly on OSX we need an Osculator file. Isn’t that avalible or is this only for the windows people?

    Hi Moya,

If I rename the template inside the New-DJMOYA2.zip file and try to load in the TouchOsc editor (to send via sync to the iPad)I got a corrupted file error. Any ideas what I´m doing wrong?

    Thks in advance

  • djmoya says:

@Elyvio just download the http://www.djmoya.com/Download/New-DJMOYA2.touchosc do not rename it. Open up TouchOSC editor and open New-DJMOYA2.touchosc then click sync now in touchosc on ur ipad male sure ur network settings are correct i use port 8000 outgoing and 9000 incoming and use ur computers host ip address. then go back and go to layout then touch Add and add your host computer ip address again. Then click on the address and it will upload the template to your ipad.

Heres a good tutorial explaining what I just said with pictures plus how to use the osc template with OSCulator on OSX.

Scroll down to the part about OSCULATOR MANUAL CONFIGURATION heres a copy and paste of what it says. Visit the link above for the pictures of the how to.

    OSCULATOR MANUAL CONFIGURATION

We will configure the yellow slider so it can control the volume of the first track in Live:
Touch the yellow slider to send an initial event.
The event “/1/fader” should appear in the main window of OSCulator.
In OSCulator, select “MIDI CC” as Event Type, and “0″ as Value (well, the first value in the list).
Now, let’s tell Live we want to use this MIDI control change to control the volume fader of the first track. This procedure also works for any button or control in Live.
Return to Live, and click on the MIDI button, located upper right. Live turns to MIDI Learn mode.
Click on the volume fader of the first track. The track should now look like this:

In TouchOSC, touch the yellow slider again. This will forward the event to Live, which will learn that we want to use the MIDI control change 0 to control the volume fader. A “1/0″ label is now displayed next to the volume fader, like this:

Leave MIDI learn mode by click on the MIDI button upper right.
    You’re done!
If you click the volume fader in Live, you will notice OSCulator will automatically detect a MIDI message and will convert it to an OSC message that it sends to TouchOSC running on your iPhone.
That means that TouchOSC and Live are synchronized both ways.

Not sure if you may need this to but here it is. http://hexler.net/software/qcosc

    Moya,

I sugest some hot cues in page 3 to help in scratching.
Four dedicated cue buttons in page 1 would be great.
A button to toggle between brownse view and deck views would help when using 4 decks or a small monitor.

    Thanks

I love your template you’ve created, but I just wish everything worked for me. I’m on a Mac too, so it seems like anyone using a Mac can’t quite get it working.

The TSI file for some reason never works correctly when it’s downloaded with Safari, but if I use Firefox I can download it just fine. No clue as to why, so that can solve that issue for some people.

I’d love to use PureData on the Mac as I’d rather not have to buy OSCulator.

I see you’ve put up some basic tutorials, but if someone has any info on how to get this working on a Mac with the three files DJMoya has supplied, that would be fantastic.

    August 9, 2010 at 3:17 am
  • DJ dTb says:

@brigden i am working on an OSCulator file dont try to use the tsi file its totally wrong and just an example create a new midi map in traktor and connect with OSCulator. When you press on the buttons on the ipad dj moya template they will show up in osculator take note of the number for each button then map it to traktor. Yes it is a pain in the ass but give it a try or wait until i have my OSC file finished i am doing it little by little and expect it to be done by the end of the week. Good luck i hope you successful

Yea sorry guys I don’t own a Mac so I can’t make it my self. I think pure data also runs on the Mac? If it does then it will be easy to get my template to run. Thank you DJ dTb for your work.

    August 9, 2010 at 11:17 am
  • Brigden says:

I’ll simply wait for your OSCulator file then DJ dTb. Myself and anyone else appreciates you doing this. Hopefully you can place all the files you use to get it to work on a Mac up somewhere. Thanks again.

Dear DJ Friends, a question out of Holland. I’ve installed all the stuff you need to control Traktor. I can choose the IpadTouch control in the device setup but after that the assignmenttable is not filled with a list…it is blank. When I leave the preferences and I touch my iPad I can see that there is a contact because there is a little light blinking called MIDI…but nothing is working :-( . Maybe one of you can help me. (sorry for my bad English). Thanx for your answers.

Hi Jan Willem, I have exactly the same issue. Blinking midi light in traktor but ipad controls are not working.
I am using a macbook pro with Traktor 1.2.1 and Osculator.

    October 29, 2010 at 11:40 am
  • djmoya says:

Did you map out your own oscillator osc map? If not just use puredata for Mac it’s for free. Then use IAC Driver + Network – OSX built in MIDI Yoke alternative in Audio MIDI Setup in the applications – utilities folder.
Also make sure Touchosc app is networked to your macs ip adress

Is there any update to MIDI Yoke, its not installing.

    December 9, 2010 at 5:22 am
  • djmoya says:

To install midi yoke on Win 7 you have to actually install as an administrator. Right click on the install file and run as administrator. If the option is not there you may have to turn off the user account control. A few ways to do it can be found here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/48893-user-account-control-uac.html

Hi….first i would like to say thanks for all the useful information provided on your website! this area is a minefield for the uninitiated and your advise is a god-send.

i have managed to get pure data communicating with my ipad and have downloaded your traktor template. the problem i am having is with mapping the controls to traktor pro (latest version).

I have tried to download both the pure data patch and traktor tks settings files that you provide at the top of the page but instead of downloading the files it just shows me a page full of code. Is this right? or am i missing something? If that is right, what do i do with the code on the page? sorry if these are a noob questions or one’s that you have had to answer many times before but i really have no idea what i am doing!

Thank you for your time and effort…keep up the good work!
